Efforts Already Underway for the Second Annual Albany Peace Project in January 2015
ALBANY, NY – Organizers for the Albany Peace Project are already hard at work preparing for the second phase of a 10 year research project designed to determine if an organized group of trained meditators creating a “coherent state” and then focusing peaceful coherent intention outwardly can measurably reduce local violence. Their hypothesis is that focused peaceful intention has real world impact, as dozens of prior research studies suggest. They are gathering evidence to determine if this approach can be used to positively impact Albany, NY.
This year The Albany Peace Project is collaborating with the Institute of HeartMath, an internationally recognized nonprofit research and education organization dedicated to helping people reduce stress, self-regulate emotions and build energy and resilience to live more healthy, happy lives. The Albany Peace Project will offer daily meditations that include the Institute of HeartMath’s evidence based technique, the Heart Lock-In® which reliably leads participants’ nervous systems into a state known as “coherence”.
Personal coherence, also known as psychophysiological coherence, refers to the synchronization of our physical, mental and emotional systems. It can be measured by our heart-rhythm patterns: The more balanced and smooth they are, the more in sync, or coherent, we are. Stress levels recede, energy levels increase and what HeartMath calls the “heart brain” are working together. It is a state of optimal clarity, perception and performance.
The Albany Peace Project is the brainchild of Bethany Gonyea, a biofeedback specialist who has observed the power of focused intention inside the body to lower blood pressure, lesson pain and shunt blood flow. Biofeedback therapy involves training patients to control physiological processes such as muscle tension, blood pressure, or heart rate. These processes usually occur involuntarily, however, patients who receive training from a biofeedback therapist can learn how to completely manipulate them at will to treat chronic pain, urinary incontinence, high blood pressure, tension headache, and migraine headache. Gonyea organized The Albany Peace Project because she is passionate about teaching people how to garner the power of their own mind to create positive change, both for themselves and others. “Once a person experiences the healing power of their own harnessed intention they feel confidence to apply it to all areas of their life, and greater evidence is growing that their harnessed intentions positively influences the world around them as well.” The Albany Peace Project encourages people to use similar healing intentional skills honed through biofeedback techniques to promote peace in the world around them.
